all on a journey of discovering our belonging in the heart of Divine love

As a spiritual director, I companion others on this path where our own inner journeys intersect with the world, where we need a spirituality of seeing the Divine everywhere.

what is
spiritual direction?

Spiritual direction is a space to spiritually and emotionally breathe, re-center, and listen together for the movement of the Divine Mystery in your life, however you understand that.

You can bring your hopes, longings, fears, and griefs, your spiritual questions and doubts, and find a place to be heard, to heal, to grieve, to celebrate, and to reconnect with your deepest self.

Spiritual direction is about experiencing the sacred in all of life and discovering that we are compassionately entwined in the heart of Reality.

It's not about problem solving, but lovingly noticing the interior movements of your heart and asking questions like, "Where might Spirit be inviting you in this?", or "As you pause with this feeling in your body, what wisdom might it have for you?" or, "As you discern your way forward, where do you sense life, possibility, and interior freedom?".

Together, we will listen for ways
you are being invited deeper into

your true self in love .

Spiritual direction is for anyone who desires
to nurture and deepen their spiritual life and practice.

Spiritual direction is for anyone who desires to nurture and deepen their spiritual life and practice.

Together, we will listen for ways you are being invited deeper into Your true self in love.

Here are few areas of focus I enjoy companioning around:

those reimagining
their Spirituality

At some point in our spiritual journey many of us sense an invitation into a wider, more expansive spirituality. Prior beliefs and religious groups simply do not fit anymore.

This is a space to deconstruct unhelpful or harmful beliefs and heal from past religious hurt. It is also a place to experience again, in safe ways, the compassionate embrace of the Divine / Reality / Source that drew us to the spiritual life to begin with.

those seeking wholeness & peace

On some level we all yearn for a life where we can simply enjoy being ourselves. Where we trust in our belovedness. Where we are able to live with an open heart and open hands, let go of our egos, and find inner stillness and rest.

This is a space where you can cultivate greater mindfulness, grow in compassion for others, and integrate all the parts of yourself as you are held secure in Love.

integrating spirit

Our work and spirituality belong together. As we ask what is ours to do in the world, it is vital that we see and experience Love’s presence everywhere. That way our creative expression and justice work finds its origin in an interconnected place of empathy and inspiration.

This is a space to grow in compassion, listen for inspiration, and discern how you are being invited into new ways forward.

While I personally draw most from contemplative Christianity and some Buddhist streams, I enjoy companioning people of all religious backgrounds. I am also LGBTQ affirming.

This is a chance to meet, hear what brings you to spiritual direction,

It is not a commitment, but a step to discern if we are a good fit.

This is a chance to meet, hear what brings you to spiritual direction, share more about my approach, and answer any questions. It is not a commitment, but a step to discern if we are a good fit.

  • A normal session begins by bringing ourselves from our busy lives to be present in the current space and moment. Depending on your preferences, we may pause in silence, pray and connect with your sense of the sacred, or share a poem or art piece to contemplate. When you are ready, we begin with whatever question, experience, or life situation you would like to talk about. For those who desire to integrate their creative and spiritual lives, you might bring a work in progress or recently finished piece as a way to explore the spiritual undercurrents in your life and creative process.

My role is to listen deeply, ask evocative questions to help you reflect, and companion you in silence and contemplative practices. I often invite directees to engage their imagination, notice the body and its wisdom, compassionately tend to emerging feelings, or even use arts as a way to express and surface interior movements. These are all means of gently noticing movements in your spiritual life and deepening your experience of compassionate interconnection with yourself, others, the cosmos, and the Divine / Source / Reality.

  • Nope! While I am most familiar with the Christian tradition and some Buddhist streams, you might have any or no specific religious background.

And whatever you believe, and whatever spiritual language you find most comfortable, that’s where we’ll start! The focus isn’t on getting the right answers, staying at the cognitive level. Instead, we pay attention to the inner movements of your life in dialogue with your sense of invitation for how to show up in the world.

  • Spiritual direction and therapy differ both in terms of methods and focus, even though the same life circumstances could be discussed in both settings. Therapy is focused on addressing presenting mental health, behavioral, and relational issues, getting to the root causes and healing past wounds and trauma. In contrast, spiritual direction is about deepening your compassionate connection with yourself and the Divine / Sacred / Reality, however you name it. It is about noticing what is emerging in the interior movements of your spiritual journey through all of life’s circumstances.

  • Nope! There may be follow-up steps that you discern during a session, but I will never assign something that you have to do before we meet again.

Occasionally I may suggest a practice to try or a helpful resource if it directly ties to what you are bringing to discuss in the session, but it is always entirely up to you whether to do anything with it!

I LOVE A GOOD QUESTION,
SILENCE HAS BECOME MY FRIEND,
I’M FINDING PEACE IN LETTING GO OF MYSELF,

MY JOY IS HELPING OTHERS FIND THEIR HOME IN THE HEART OF LOVE.

I’m a spiritual director through Stillpoint, and co-founder of The Table Collective, a creative interspiritual community. My own spiritual journey has been one simultaneously filled with curiosity and questions, as well as guiding experiences of Spirit. It has been a journey of healing, increasing inner stillness, reclaiming my creativity, and entering deeper into compassionate interconnection with the Divine.

My hope as I companion others is for them to find themselves as they re-experience the Love who knows and cares for all of who they are.

“Steven’s gift is being fully present to deeply listen and ask questions that bring forth a deeper recognition of what’s really going on. It allows me to express my inner turmoils, longings and joys. I always look forward to our times together because I know that I’ll be welcomed, accepted and listened to, and at the end of our time I’ll have new appreciation and courage to live into God’s invitations.”
